Imagination Station

Description

Our Imagination Station program is designed to support children in kindergarten through early elementary (ages 4.5 to 5, up to grade 1) as they build foundational skills in executive functioning and fine motor development. This term, our central theme is Independence, offering children the chance to gain confidence in planning, preparing, and executing their own creative projects in a structured group setting.

Throughout the term, children will engage in fun, hands-on arts and crafts and science activities that encourage focus, planning, and follow-through. These activities are specifically designed to support the development of fine motor skills—such as cutting, tracing, drawing, and coloring—while reinforcing the essential skills needed for everyday success.

We will continue using the “Get Ready, Do, Done” framework introduced last term, helping children plan, execute, and reflect on their activities with increased independence. This structure provides children with a clear path from starting a task to completing it, which promotes both self-management and task completion.

This is for..

Imagination Station is ideal for children who are ready to build on their executive functioning skills and develop independence in a supportive setting. This group is especially beneficial for children who:

  • Struggle with following routines or completing activities independently

  • Have difficulty observing peers for guidance on expected behaviors

  • Need practice initiating tasks and staying focused until completion

  • Struggle to remember instructions or track what needs to be done

  • Tend to rely on adults for assistance in completing tasks

  • Benefit from structured opportunities to practice peer interactions

  • Need support developing fine motor skills like cutting, tracing, writing, and drawing

The program offers extra support in these areas, giving children the skills and confidence to become more self-sufficient in everyday tasks.

3       Routines

The theme of Independence will be woven throughout each session, strengthening the skills children already possess while gently introducing new challenges in a fun and supportive way. Each session will include the following:

  • Arts & Crafts Activities: Children will express their creativity through arts and crafts projects that encourage fine motor skill development. After completing each project, they’ll reflect on their work, fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride in their independent efforts.

  • Science Experiments: Hands-on science experiments will allow children to explore new topics while practicing the multi-step process of planning, executing, and reflecting. These experiments will help build critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

Our structured approach ensures that every activity is purposeful and engaging, providing children with the opportunity to practice staying on task, working independently, and navigating group routines. By the end of the term, children will feel more confident in their ability to complete tasks and interact with peers, setting the foundation for continued growth in both school and everyday life.
